A long-time resident of Bartow County, Scott is dedicated to the field of prevention and has worked closely with several local agencies over the past 10 years including the Board of Education, Department of Juvenile Justice, Advocates for Bartow Children, NW GA Public Health and the Family Drug Treatment Court. Scott holds a B.S. in Communications from Georgia Southern University and an M.S. in Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University. Scott is currently working towards his Prevention Specialist Certification. Scott is married to Kathy Sherwin and they have two sons, Zach and Wes.

Michael Carpenter, PhD
With more than 35 years of experience in drug and violence prevention as a Student Assistance Program consultant for Georgia's Departments of Education and Human Resources and as a teacher and administrator in Cobb County Schools, Dr. Carpenter founded the Prevention Intervention Center in Cobb Schools in 1987, Georgia's Student Assistance Professionals Association (SAPA) in 1991, and the International Bullying Prevention Conference in 2003. Mike has a B.S. from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, a M.ED in Community Counseling from Memphis State University, and a PhD in Educational Administration and doctoral certification in School Counseling. Dr. Carpenter is a nationally certified bullying prevention program trainer and is married to an educator with more than 40 years of teaching experience. They have three adult children.

Christa Layton
Christa Layton is a long time resident of Bartow County. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in Health Promotion and Behavior from the College of Public Health. She has worked in the field of Prevention as a Youth Health Educator for Bartow and Floyd County through Northwest Georgia Public Health, and she joined the Coalition to Prevent the Misuse of Alcohol team in early 2012. Christa is currently working toward her Prevention Specialist Certification.

Claire Curtis
Claire is new to the prevention field and joined the Coalition in February of 2012. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and has eight years of experience in the legal field. Claire is currently working towards her Prevention Specialist Certification.
